Have you heard of an app that lets you create your own animated skits? Let me introduce to you Toontastic.
Toontastic is an app, created by Google, that have the things you need to create a short story, a short presentation, or a short report in an animated fashion without the need to use image and video rendering software. You don't have to learn in-depth video editing and image manipulation for you to create decent videos. All you need is your imagination and creativity and you are all ready to go.
Once you've downloaded the Toontastic app from Google Playstore and opened it, you will be walked through a few prompts to set up your environment. First, you would need to choose between three pre-made scenes. These scenes primarily differ on the length of the video that you are going to create.
Every story have segments or parts where you can plan out your introduction, climax, and ending. Each of these segments have timers so I would suggest you write your written scripts or voice recordings in a way that they would fit the time allotted for the segment. (if you are planning to use scripts and/or voice recordings.)
Next, you will then be directed to a prompt that would let you choose your environment. Do you fancy a pirate story? No problem, Toontastic got a pirate ship scene and all you need is to step up onboard.
No pirate ship is complete without it's pirate crew! Argh!
Toontastic has a variety of characters that you can use in your story. You can even create your own if you are the artistic type of person. Just choose your characters and you are ready to start your story.
But before you start, It is also nice to know that you can edit your characters. That is right! You can change the color of their clothes and attires to your liking. Once you have everything the way you like it, then it is time to create your scene.
Above, is an example of a video I created using Toontastic. I just created the first part of the scene just to show how it looks like. You can move your characters around by dragging them. You can zoom in an out of the scene. You can have your characters move their mouths if you do a long press hold on their avatars. You can also insert words and voices as a post production addition.
Finally, the mood is where you can set background music to complete a scene.
I hope you find this helpful and I can't wait to see how creative you can be on your stories.
